Cause of buffering when dragging links?

This is a problem that I first noticed in Pre13 and has continued after upgrading to Pre21.

1) Drag a link from Firefox to InfoQube

2) Buffering symbol comes up and continues for 30+ seconds.  Sometimes it continues for several minutes and I have to close the program and start over.

The above happens a few dozen times a day.  Once it starts in, it'll do it repeatedly for quite a while.

I just rebooted the computer so I don't think it's a memory problem (though sometimes it may be)

Crashes

I know you won't be able to reproduce this but I'll report it in case it might be helpful in some way.

I've had this happen several times recently, and again just now:

1) Program instantly "turns off".  There's no freeze-up.  It just disappears.

2) When I re-open the file:

a) Columns have been lost from the open grid.

b) Outline has been collapsed to one level in the open grid.

I haven't noticed any items lost so far.

Suggestions to improve column sets

I know I posted this a long time ago but will dredge it up again because I find that the limitations in loading column sets really reduces their usefulness.

When you load a column set:

1) It does not preserve column arrangement (the order is preserved but all columns are loaded to the right of the item column)

2) It does not preserve column groups (groups are disbanded)

3) It does not preserve hidden columns (all columns are loaded)

IQ outline as a writing tool

Submitted by jimspoon on 2022/07/17 11:30

When I'm writing anything, I'm constantly rearranging my sentences or lines.  In Word or a text editor, this means cutting and pasting.  But if I put each sentence or line in an IQ item in an IQ outline, this rearranging becomes very easy.  An IQ item can become a whole document in its own right, consisting of its hierarchy of subitems.  Under that Level 1 "document" item, the Level 2 items could be headings, Level 3 items could be paragraphs, Level 4 items could be sentences.  And then at some point, this item could be printed or exported to a non-IQ format, with the IQ hierarchy being cor

parent-child vs tags vs fields - item ordering capability

Submitted by jimspoon on 2022/07/17 11:12

IQ gives us many ways to group related items together, including parent-child links, tags, fields.  I had a thought about how the parent-child link might have an advantage over using tags or fields.  If you group (Level 2) related items under a (Level 1) parent item, you can arrange them in any order, and that order of subitems under that parent will be retained.  And an item may have multiple parents, each with its own ordering of its subitems.  An item may appear in one place under one parent and a different place under another parent.  I don't think you can do this with tags or fields, t

Can't get color names to display correctly

How do I get ItemColor column to display the color name instead of a number?

Some colors do display the name (eg Yellow1) but over half show a number instead (eg 15137995).

OK, checked another grid and every color I used DID display the name correctly.  So maybe this is a bug?

opml / oml / xml import tip

Submitted by jimspoon on 2022/07/15 17:06

IQ supports OPML import and also OML import.  OPML makes heavy use of "attributes" enclosed in quotes, while other XML-type files may have lots of data enclosed in <> "elements" or "sub-elements".  I found some a page on how to convert from "sub-elements" to "attributes", which could make it easier to get the data into IQ via OPML import:

Find & FIlter doesn't recognize whole words

Find & Filter search results included partial-word matches when "Whole Word only" was specified

Find & Filter search settings = <Entire File/Show in Live Search/Selected Column/Exact String/Whole Word only>

Search = LED

Search results included = pulLED, faiLED (etc)

Changing search to "LED" still included spurious results (though maybe not as many).

Find and Filter doesn't find item

Find and Filter issue

1) Search for text "mop" in grid using Find and Filter (Current View/Filter by Value/Selected Column/Any Keyword/All levels).

2) Filter fails to find "mop".

3) Expand outline to three levels.

4) Run the exact same search again.  NOW, it finds "mop".

In short, Find and Filter often fails to find a subitem even though search is set to "all levels" and will only find it if the outline is expanded to show the item.

Changes in item text not reflected in Reminders

Maybe not so much a bug as a missing feature: It seems the text shown for reminders does not get updated when user changes the corresponding item's text. So if the text was "Party next Friday" and the user changes this to "Party next Saturday" after the reminder was created, the reminder text will still be for Friday.

Cheers!
