Struggling with performance with 2500 TLI's in a grid

Submitted by Tom on 2011/06/28 10:46

I'm wondering if anyone else is successfully working with a grid with 1000+ top level items?

I have a grid with roughly 2500 TLIs

"minor" usability issues:
often clicking on an item will cause the focus to change to an item at the other end of the grid - this is a royal pain, having to relocate where you were... This seems to be common - I know superboyac was complaining about it before.
There were others minor but I'm bogged down with the one below.

Major usability issue:
ability to move items - I decided to move about 2000 items under a TLI - by selecting and using Alt+Left arrow.

Status update

The forums seem rather lethargic these days. I suppose people are on vacation, or preparing for one. Pierre must be busy with the next release and unavailable to contribute, but questions are taking an atypically long time to answer if at all.

Of primary concern is the silence regarding the next version. It has been well over one month (I know there was Pierre's intervening vacation), and promises for fixes of bugs have not happened. I am not saying that the next version should be released prematurely - but since IQ is in active development, I would hope for some better information. In the past we have enjoyed regular updates through this and other forums. Has something changed?

item info (M)

Submitted by ThomR on 2011/06/23 12:51
Is it possible to modify what fields shop up when viewing item 'info' from context menu (or tooltip)? Right now I'm seeing 'Field; Value; Modified; By; and Words', and I'm looking for a quick way to view an item's IDItem (without showing that column, obviously).

saving order in top level of the grid

Hi,
I know it wasn't possible. Just in case I will clarify -- in regard to the top level in the grid -- is it possible to move items up & down or sort them and then save that order? When I do that and than refresh they will come back to the original positions. The only way around it that I know is to create a new parent for all those, but then I have one line om my grid taken and my grid shorter. Not a big deal I guess, but is it planned to be changed?
Thanks

[Can I] conditional formatting based on two fields?

Submitted by Tom on 2011/06/14 05:16
From the docs, I think this not possible:

I want a field to be conditionally formatted based on whether the field itself is ticked but also based on whether another field is ticked

i.e. two conditions (yes/no fields) must be met before the field is coloured.

I tried using "|" in the sample grid with no success:
=0|AddressBook=0

Date picker not working

Submitted by gregory on 2011/06/10 03:32
Hello.

I somewhat buried it in an earlier post... But I cannot for now set the date for an item.

What I said earlier was and remains true: if I click on the date of the appointment, then click on the down arrow that appears (in the hope of getting the date picker to set a date done), nothing happens and the grid freezes. The only thing that I can do is to close the grid and to reopen it (other grids still work).

Clearly this is a problem that is not common / widespread. I observe some other strange behaviour on my system which makes me wonder whether the problem lies with Windows. That strange behaviour is evident in certain uses of Firefox, where tabbing from one field to another using the tab key sometimes doesn't quite work - that is, the cursor is close to but not in the next field and it is necessary to use the mouse to actually select the next field.

Crash - Unable to create new fields

Submitted by Tom on 2011/06/08 10:19
It's been a while since I created new fields - I am unable to create a new field in my old install OR in a clean install of T with sample db

Here's what I do (using a sample database)
  1. Right-click any column header >Field Properties >New:
  2. I tried various names e.g. Anyname - I dont change any settings - it's set to "Yes/No" field
  3. I click Save (Auto is selected but I forget what that does - AutoSave?)
  4. Click Close - IQ disappears
Step 3 seems supperflous - IQ crashes anyway
When it restarts, I reopen the file and the Field is there but if I try display it IQ crashes again.
