"Daily Logs" and Group Items by Sort Column

Submitted by KeithB on 2009/04/30 22:36
I saw a daily logs grid  Jan mentioned in I need a suggestion for workflow , and experimented with that a bit per his description, and Pierre's comments. Attached is what I came up with (I didn't get all the color stuff setup).

I wanted to mention that the Grid>Group Items by Sort Column, a feature I didn't really understand. It's one of those many IQ things that seems so simple once you know it exists. I don't think I've seen much about it in past forum posts, except perhaps a brief text description.

It's really easy to use--all you do is click a column to sort on, such as the date, in the example shown, then either click the icon, or use the menu Grid>Group Items by Sort Column. Look how nice that works for a daily log or daily journal.

cross pollination

Submitted by jan_rifkinson on 2009/04/30 21:42
Every once in a while -- for unexplained reasons -- I find a duplicate item in a grid where it doesn't belong.

For example, tonight a copy of a sub-item  created in my journal grid ended up in the contacts grid.
When I try to erase / delete it, IQ only offers remove entirely, not remove from this grid only. Therefore I can't remove it.
If I look in all available fields, the item's parent | grandparent & grid name are properly listed as journal 04/30/09 & 04/09
but not so in contacts
there is no indication that it should be there yet it is there

This situation has arisen more than once.

Conflict possible with Onenote

User zzlirp has reported in Mantis (http://mantis.sqlnotes.net/view.php?id=689):
The "Send to onenote" funtion is blocked out of both IE and Firefox while IQ is active. (...)
I can't see anything I do in FF (and even less in IE as IQ does not have an add-on for it) that can cause this.

Can other Onenote users report on this?

Set Default Font for HTML Pane?

Submitted by David_H on 2009/04/29 15:17
I have reached the point with IQ where I want to use the HTML pane with a vengeance but the constant defaulting to Times Roman is stopping me.  Even in the same pane I often change the font and the next thing I know a few lines later it's back to Times Roman.  Am I doing something wrong?  Is there a way to override this?  I looked under options but cannot find any settings for the HTML pane.  Of course I'd also like to be able to set default font size etc.

To clarify, I want to set the default for ALL panes so I do not have to mess with it.

Thanks

send email from IQ

According to the thread @ How to set up gmail smtp server
I am supposed to be able to click on an email link to call my email client (Thunderbird)
I tried this both in a grid cell & form data column.
Nothing happened
Same for right clicking on an email & clicking the email icon
Is there a problem or am I missing something?

[IDEA] Word Wrap to particular length possible in HTML pane?

Submitted by Tom on 2009/04/28 07:41
I'm wondering if it's possible to wrap text to a particular length in the HTML Pane

I know it's not the way HTML normally works but I find it could be very helpful at times - say I want to export items to web page (with HTML Pane) and want to limit the text width to make it more readable. Of course then I'd probably want an unwrap at some stage! (it could be a temporary thing?)

Wanted to post about this following elsewhere, but I'll just mention it here:
I find export to web a very important aspect of the programme because it's how I show others information from IQ, which for me is an essential aspect of the programme.

dc thread "The evil of the horizontal scrollbar - and what we can do about it"

There's a very interesting new thread at donationcoder "The evil of the horizontal scrollbar - and what we can do about it" started by Tranglos (author of KeyNote).
It about interfaces in programmes in particular.

I made a post about how IQ copes with this (locking columns and the Ctrl+Mouse wheel horizontal scrolling)
