InfoQube is a very interesting, capable program. Almost anything anyone might want to do w data is made available to the user however, IMO, in its current state 01/31/09 it is very time consumming to figure out how to do what one wants to do..  At least this is my experience. Added to that is that the help file is incomplete, shortcuts are added, changed, etc as development is active & ongoing -- thank you, Pierre.

For almost the entire month of January, I devoted myself to using IQ on a daily basis, i.e. doing what I do on a typical day.  As a backup I also replicating everything in UltraRecall because it's my current PIM (or whatever you want to call it).

fields names (& functions)

Submitted by Armando on 2009/01/31 18:44
Between versions, some field names change, are added, etc. My database now contains a number of fields that are "obsolete" (not used anymore in the newer IQ version -- thinking of formulas, etc.).

e.g. : the due field and duedate field case.... The due field has basically disappeared...  So what happened is that I have a number of items with stuff in duedate, others in due, etc. What a mess. And that's for one field only.

It's tedious to have to compare all of these changes from version to version.

Could the user be provided with a list of all these modifications between versions so that one can make the appropriate changes at an appropriate time ?

thanks.

duedate from clipping dialog - possible problem

Submitted by jan_rifkinson on 2009/01/31 09:41
It appears to me if user clips / copies into new item dialog <win>+n & adds a date in the DueDate, that date does not appear in field propties

I added several items this way to appear in InBox but added a date in DueDate

I have a grid which filters for DueDate but the items didn't appear there so I went back & looked @ the items in the Inbox. There I checked Item properties & due date was not present.
This would explain why these items didn't show up in my DueDate Grid

lineage usage

Submitted by jan_rifkinson on 2009/01/31 08:15
Pierre, you have included some very nifty things like the ability to add hyperlink & viewing lineage in various places.
However, I think they could be made more useful. Here's what I mean.

Currently, clicking on lineage or even hyperlinking to an item jumps to the parent, grandparent, etc in the current grid.

However In "CONTACT" grid I have
Pierre | Tel # | Task (y/n)

To remind myself to call Pierre I create child item "call Pierre on Tue" and I check "task" = yes in contact list

Now I also have a  "TASK" grid so I'm looking @ all my tasks & I see I have to call Pierre because I have context parents visible. Down in the status bar, I see lineage & Pierre appears as a parent link.

Quickly add dates to an attendance register

Submitted by david1904 on 2009/01/30 18:23
I have a list of individuals, some entered as members of a family, others as single individuals.
Each week of the year, most, but not all, are in attendance.
I want to be able to record the date for which each individual is present without having to enter data for each one as separate entries. In other words, how can I enter an attendance date for each individual "en bloc" and then just edit the few who were not present?
From time to time I will need to add new individuals to the list as it will not be static.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
David

Creating a new file

Submitted by david1904 on 2009/01/30 17:16
Hi Pierre,

When I try to create a new file, or if I try to save the current one under another name (Save As), I get the same message "*.sndb already exists - do you wish to overwrite".
It doesn't matter what name I use, the message remains the same - and the only sndb I have is "sample".
Is there a configuration issue or .…?

Likewise, I cannot see how to save changes I make to a grid (more frustrating because upon recently opening the addressbook grid the only column remaining in it was "Item" - but I never consciously unchecked any of the others, and cannot understand why there were not there the next time I opened the grid)

Thanks,

David

My Workflow - SAMPLE file

Submitted by Tom on 2009/01/30 12:03

Attached is an IQ file based on my workflow, working with files -
a lot of this could apply to anything though so hopefully it may be of use to you!

In the text below, quotation marks indicate a field or a grid!
I’ve put a good bit of time into this so please read through here before downloading (at the very least read the BEFORE YOU OPEN THIS FILE bit below), thanks
  • There is no ToDo lists here (I keep that seperate)
  • There is no information re estimates or quotes for jobs here (I keep that seperate)
  • I dont use Gantt.

linking to HD file

Submitted by jan_rifkinson on 2009/01/30 10:42
Pierre,

I saved an html page as a scrapbbok file because it was from a secure site.
I then opened the file in my browser & created a link in InfoQube. Naturally URL appears as file:///  but I can't seem to open this file from within IQ.

If I take the exact same steps for UltraRecall, I can just click on the imported item & the file opens in the URp browser window.

How do I do this in IQ?

I know about drag / drop to create link as item which would probably work but that's not what I want to do.

Thanks.

Display problem: Last column in grid fills available space

Submitted by Tom on 2009/01/30 06:31
in a new file - I have been working on it a bit, adding loads of fields, changing grid names etc.

in the WorkDone grid
the field/column at the end always takes up the full space available so it's contents - if aligned centered or to right - show way over

it doesnt matter what field I show at the end, this always happens

It's a sample grid I'm working on for the blog here so I could send it to you Pierre if that would help

Possibly related:
Renamed WorkDone to _WorkDone and changed it back again (see Is a field allowed to start with an underscore ? - gets error)
