hierarchical data import fails to import indented lines

Submitted by jimspoon on 2025/05/06 20:36

Attached file sample.txt contains text.  Each line is tab-indented to the appropriate outline level.

Clicked File > Import > Hierarchical Data.  Loaded sample.txt.  IQ says "File type is: Tab Indented".

Under Import Options, selected 1.  "Add all items to grid: Main2".

Clicked Import button - only unindented items were imported.  No indented items were imported.

Also tried "Option 2. Add all items to field: main".  Clicked import again, only unindented items were imported, no indented items were imported.

Is this a bug, or am I missing something?

Update.  Ran Ecco32.exe.  View > Notepad > New Notepad > "import".  Now in "import" Notepad.  File > Database > Import > OK > Pasted path to sample.txt > OK.  In Ecco import dialog.  Insert imported items after currently selected item at same level > OK > OK.  Indented Lines are imported into Ecco and outline levels are preserved.  In "import" Notepad - Select all the imported items.

Now in IQ, File > Import From > Ecco file > Step 3 - Import Selected Items > Step 4 - View imported items.  EccoImported grid opens.  The items appear with the proper indentation level.  It works, but it would be a lot easier if IQ's File > Import From > Hierarchical Data would import the Tab Indented file and assign the proper outline levels to the tab indented lines.
