By Default, new items are added to the Inbox Grid (with Source = Inbox field) when the "New Item to IQBase" window is used.

If I look at the Inbox field in the window, it is not automatically checked. However, after clicking on OK, the field is automatically checked and the new item is therefore shown in the Inbox Grid.

Now, I wanted to use an "Inbox" Tag instead of the  "Inbox" field as a source for the "Inbox Grid", but that doesn't work. After clicking on OK, the  "Inbox" Tag is not checked and the item therefore doesn't show in the Grid.

How is the "Inbox" Field automatically checked when clicking OK, and is it possible to do the same for the Inbox Tag?

Follow up: In Manage Grids, I noticed that for Grids with a Field as a source, the "Auto-assign field list" is auto populated with the field. I assume that this is what cause the "Inbox" filed to be automatically checked?

For a Grid using a Tag as a source, the  "Auto-assign field list" is blank.

If I use a Grid with a Tag as a source, any items that I enter in the Grid is automatically assigned to the Tag source. Why is the  "Auto-assign field list" needed for Grids using a field as a source?

(Except for the New Item Window, is it possible to assign an item directly to a Grid? If so, I may understand the need for the "Auto-assign field list"...??)

IQ was built like Ecco, i.e. based on fields. Tags were added and integrated in many aspects of IQ, but some UIs were not updated. It seems this is one of them

In the next version:

  • Fixed: Manage Grids dialog: Data > "Auto-assign field list" only showed fields. Now also shows Tags (read-only, comes from the grid source)
  • New: Add Item dialog: Support adding to Inbox grid when grid uses a tag as source (vs using a field as source)

From the quoted Doc page:

----------------------

  1. Auto-assign field/Tag list for all top level items: Based on the grid source, this give the (read-only) list of fields and tags that will be automatically assigned a value for all new Top Level Items (TLI) created in this grid

----------------------

I have read this and I believe that I understand it...

However, in a grid with a Tag as a source, there is no "Auto-assign field/Tag list for all top level items:". Any new TLIs are still assigned to the the Grid with the Tag Source value.

Thus, at least for Grid's with Tags as source, this "feature" does not seem to be needed. Why is it needed for Grids with a Field source? (I wanted to test, but it is not possible to remove the Auto-assign field in the Grid properties).

How do I ?
