Sometimes it would be nice not to display the document pane.

I know I can switch it off manually but that's not what I'm talking about.  Some grids are textual in nature and for those grids you want the Document Pane displayed.  But InfoQube is based on an SQL database and as such it can be used to manipulate tables of information which is not necessarily textual.

Recently I have been working on a grid which is mainly numeric (yes IQ can be used as a spreadsheet) and the Document Pane just gets in the way so I switch it off, but when I switch back to one of the other grids I have to switch it back on again, which isn't a big deal really.

It might be an idea to include a flag (checkbox) in each grid which defines the default display state of the Document Pane for that grid so that when I switch to a grid which doesn't need the Document Pane it disappears and when I switch to one of the other grids then it comes back again.

Another way of doing the same thing would be for InfoQube to remember if the document pane was on or off for each grid so it comes back in the same state it was when you last had that grid open.

Just a thought.

Paul,

In a previous thread, I suggested being able to configure the Doc pane independently for each grid.  I'd like to use the grid for image databases but this only works for me if the Doc pane takes up 3/4 of the view.  That's fine for the image grid, but makes other kinds of work difficult.

Pierre said he agreed it would be nice, I think.  Maybe he's given more thought to whether it would be feasible or worthwhile.

Hi Paul and Wayne,

It's still planned to improve the screen real-estate usage of the Doc pane. Two distinct things can be added:

  1. Copy / Paste a Doc pane to a tab (much like you can for views). Similar is new View > Document > New Document pane attached to this tab
  2. Grid option to automatically show / hide the Doc pane (+ default = no change)

I'm putting the last touch to v117Pre13 and may put this higher up the list
