I'm trying to make some changes to how the Document Pane is formatted, and finding no matter how much I change default.css, it has no effect. Any other style sheet I try, e.g. bubblegum, gray etc, I can make changes and see them reflected in the document, at least after I've reselected the style sheet.

I have default.css specified in Options as my default style sheet.

Not sure if this is a bug as this is not an area I'm familiar with.

EDIT: OK, I've worked it out. Had not thought this was a case sensitive area - I was typing default.css in the stylesheet selection box, it is actually called Default.css...

Further investigation. It seems the stylesheet has to be called Default.css and not default.css. If it 's called default.css and I refer to it as such, changes I make in it are not reflected in the document. (But then how does it even know what's in the stylesheet to begin with?)

Hi DavidF,

It should definitely not be case sensitive... I just noticed that Default.css is in a sub-folder of the program folder, so question for you : Are you using the installable flavor ? If yes, that can explain it. To solve this (until a provide a proper fix), copy it to your user folder and reference that copy in Options

... and now it's gone the other way round. The file is called Default.css. If I make some big obvious change (green background), it is not picked up unless in the Document Pane I specify default.css. If I put "Default.css" it doesn't pick up the change.

I have noticed this before, not necessarily in connection with filename case. it just generally seems erratic. I make a change to the specified default stylesheet, and it does not take effect. Then after a bit of to-ing and fro-ing and maybe some restarting, it does. Maybe changing the case of the file name is part of that.

If you can reproduce this Pierre then by all means have a look at it, otherwise it's no big deal.

I'm using the portable version, with the default stylesheet in the AppFiles folder under the programme folder.

May be there are multiple files named default.css (FYI, the .css extension is optional)

Try to simply remove the style sheet in the Doc pane (in the css text box) and hit enter

It should show using the default.css

Now do Menu > Edit > Edit Style sheet to edit it

Well, here's the latest thing I found. I made the background green in default.css, so I could see the change had taken effect. Then I changed it back to white. All good. However if I now typed "Default" into the CSS box instead of "default", or left it blank, the green background came back. When I closed the database and opened it again all was behaving as it should. And I can't reproduce the original problem.

It's not multiple files called default.css.It's as though at times the previous style lingers even though I've changed it. To be honest I wouldn't worry about it unless something occurs to you. It's an intermittent effect and the worst that can happen is I have to re-open the database.

cheers

David

Good job Sherlock,

It  seems like a browser cache issue

I'll try to reproduce it and change some settings to fix this. Please report the IE version used (Tools options - Document

In the meantime, checkout the settings in Control Panel > Internet Options >  Browsing history > Settings
