I just temporarily lost items from a grid again.  It's my own fault for procrastinating about installing the latest update which might have prevented it..

I selected all the items in a grid to do an alphabetical sort.  After completing the sort, I clicked on one of the items to return to normal work, and all 174 items in the grid disappeared.

This is how I found them:

1) Created a grid named "orphans" with the source left blank.  This loaded all created TLI's with subitems collapsed.  I was afraid this would crash the system but there were only 1,400+ items and they loaded fine.

2) I scanned the list and re-assigned the vagrant items to the original grid using forms.  This was made pretty easy by having color-coded the items.

So I don't have an outstanding problem but can't help wonder if there's a more direct way to accomplish this.  I admit that despite having read the manual numerous times, I still don't grasp how to use search efficiently.

In this case, is there a way to do a direct search that returns all items unassigned to grids (orphans)?  I tried using an asterisk and also leaving the search box blank to return all items but that didn't work.

OK, I'm seeing this new grid being very useful.

If I add all my grid columns and turn the filter to "off" for each grid column, the remaining items will be all my current orphans, current and easily accessible for assigning back to the correct grid.

This system won't, however, catch cases where an item has been unassigned to one grid, but still remains assigned to another grid.

I think I'll also keep an "all items" grid with the same set up, but all column filters turned off.  Then I'll have a running inventory of things I've been working on recently (by sorting by modified date).

Thanks, Keith.  Some good ideas in there that line up with what I just posted.

Hi Wayne,

I selected all the items in a grid to do an alphabetical sort.  After completing the sort, I clicked on one of the items to return to normal work, and all 174 items in the grid disappeared.

I was never able to reproduce this until recently. It is now fixed in v118Pre6

3+ years is a long time to fix it !! 😄😄
